Nintendo 3DS Announced

Posted on 23 March 2010 by Foster

Even though Nintendo has spent the better part of the last year vehemently denying the rumors that they were working on a successor to the Nintendo DS, no one should really be surprised to find out that they’ve officially announced a successor to the Nintendo DS.

Nintendo Wants the DS in Your School

Posted on 20 March 2010 by Foster

Shigeru Miyamoto, pretty much the best person ever and creator of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and countless other great franchises, stated in a recent interview with the AP that he’s putting a lot of focus on building the Nintendo DS into a tool for education and getting it into classrooms around the world.  He believes that utilizing it as an educational resource well help to broaden the audience of gamers, and when Miyamoto has an idea like that he usually turns out to be right.

From Forbes:

“Speaking through a translator, Miyamoto said that Nintendo’s DS console was already being used in Japanese museums, galleries, and aquariums, and that his company was beginning to roll out the Nintendo DS system “in junior high and elementary schools in Japan starting in the new school year.”

All I know is that any time I broke out my Gameboy in class I would get yelled at by surly teachers.  I get where Miyamoto is coming from on this and I agree wholeheartedly, but I feel like this will be a tough sell in the west.

What do you guys think?

Lego Harry Potter Trailer

Posted on 19 March 2010 by Foster

Traveler’s Tales has released a quick look at their upcoming Lego Harry Potter, and I have to say that the quirky charm of these Lego games has even made me think it could be possible to enjoy something that has to do with Harry Potter.  However, I’m not sure it’s possible for me to enjoy another Lego something game, since they’re all essentially the same game with different themes.

Nintendo “Not Good” at Making Games Like BioShock

Posted on 16 March 2010 by Foster

Nintendo of America Presisent Reggie Fils-Aime took a moment out of his insane schedule during this year’s Game Developer’s Conference to field a few questions, and one of the most interesting of the topics that was discussed has to be Nintendo’s perspective on third-party support.

Industry Gamers pointed out to Fils-Aime that the Wii is going strong on console exclusive in-house titles, and asked him why Nintendo should even care what the third-party folks are up to.  Here’s his response:

GDC Devs Confirm Existence of DS2

Posted on 14 March 2010 by Foster

Despite the fact that Nintendo has vehemently denied the existence of a successor to their hand-held DS system, it would appear that the DS2 is a very real thing.  At least, according to a bunch of devs at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference that apparently have their hands on the hardware.

Scribblenauts 2 is Coming

Posted on 07 March 2010 by Foster

I love Nintendo Power.  Though I’m no longer a subscriber, when I was younger I was among their readership from issue #4 until roughly #150, so I always feel pretty happy when I’m reminded that the magazine is still going strong.  But on to the point – April’s issue promises to reveal some details on the sequel to 5th Cell’s amazing DS title, Scribblenauts.

According to GoNintendo, Scribblenauts 2 will feature 10,000 additional words (ridiculous), 120 new levels, and a more robust level editor.  As far as a release date, “fall” is the best we can get at the moment.  And if you never played the original Scribblenauts, now would be a very good time to pick it up – you’ll need all the vocabulary mastery you can get if you’re hoping to tackle the sequel.

Hit the jump for the full shot of the cover.
