Square Enix Wants You to Buy this FFXIII iPhone App

Posted on 18 March 2010 by Foster

Hey Final Fantasy fans!  Do you like wasting money on completely ridiculous and worthless things just because they relate to your game franchise of choice?  If so, you’re in luck – Square Enix has released their “Final Fantasy XIII Larger-then-Life Gallery” for the iPhone, and it only costs $8.99.

What do you get for this nine bucks, you ask?  Why, still pictures of FFXIII characters of course!  And a calendar.  And a clock.  And all you have to do to use these purchased images as wallpaper is take a screenshot – you couldn’t possibly expect them to make this functionality built-in and still keep the app so well priced, could you?

Why are you still reading this?  Don’t you have an incredibly stupid purchase to make?

Tony Hawk: Pro Skater Coming to iPhone

Posted on 16 March 2010 by Foster

Though rumors of a Pro Skater app for the iPhone have been around for nearly a year, this is the first time anyone close to the project has come out and said, for sure, that it exists. Tony Hawk, who I would assume knows what he’s talking about when it comes to Tony Hawk games, dropped this little (now deleted) bomb on his Twitter: “In the PR world, this is considered ‘going rogue,’ but I’m too excited. This is real & dropping soon.”

While a return to form is something that I find exciting since I feel like Pro Skater hit its pinnacle with the third installment, the real question here is the control scheme. If the iPhone is too clumsy for me to pull off one of those infamous million-point-infinite-manual combos, then you can count me out. I can be terrible at skating in real life, thank you.

Final Fantasy XIII for iPhone?

Posted on 09 March 2010 by Foster

Want Final Fantasy XIII for your iPhone?  Well you can have it….sort of.  Square Enix is partnering up with Apple’s app store to release the Final Fantasy XIII Larger-than-Life Gallery, which is apparently a collection of ultra high-res images that will be an App Store exclusive.

Here’s the deets from Square’s Facebook:

“This digital photo album is bursting at its virtual seams with ultra-high resolution FINAL FANTASY XIII imagery. Watch intricate design details come to life as you expand and explore gorgeous CG and character art, discovering hidden minutiae like eye colors, clothing materials, and the brilliant luster of accessories! You won’t find this collection of hi-res artwork in the game or on the official web site.”

Application includes the function to use your favorite image as a calendar background.”

This sounds rad and everything, but it’s going to be hard to convince people to pay money for something that is available for free on the interwebs, regardless of how ridiculously high-quality the images may be.

People that aren’t me, anyway.  Hit the jump for a couple of screens.

Microsoft Shows Off Gaming “Wave of the Future”

Posted on 08 March 2010 by Foster

Check out this awesome video from TechEd Middle East – it features Microsoft’s Eric Rudder playing an Indiana Jones game while seamlessly transitioning from a PC to a Windows 7 phone (maybe), and then to an Xbox 360.

Apparently the game will allow you to save your progress and continue at a later time from the same spot, no matter which platform you decide to use.  They’re calling it the “wave of the future” for gaming, but I’m a little wary of having my games follow me out of the house.  Especially Assassin’s Creed – that Ezio guy is unpredictable at best.

Street Fighter IV for iPhone: Do Want

Posted on 05 March 2010 by Foster

Capcom just dropped their first official preview of Street Fighter IV for the iPhone, as well as a bunch of screenshots.  The game looks incredible, which is good news for people who love Street Fighter but terrible news for my girlfriend who is already of the opinion I spend too much time gazing lovingly at my iPhone.

Tough!
