UPDATED: Breaking the Asteroids World Record

Posted on 06 April 2010 by Foster

As of my writing this post, the Asteroids world record that has stood for over 20 years is on the verge of toppling.  John McAllister, a locksmith from Washington, is about 50 hours into a marathon race to the 41,336,440 point record earned by Scott Safran in 1982.

Resident Evil: Afterlife Trailer

Posted on 05 April 2010 by Foster

I know that I talked about not needing more zombie games, however I never said a word about not needing more Milla Jovovich.

Check the trailer after the jump!

Battle.net MatchMaking: Someone to Pwn Noobs With

Posted on 01 April 2010 by Foster

Ordinarily I think that April Fools’ Day is nothing more than an excuse for the douches of the world to unite in douchery, but there are a few companies that think outside of the box and create memorable and goofy pranks.

Blizzard has always been one of my favorites in this regard; their pranks are well thought out and good spirited and they put a ton of effort into each one, not to mention they usually have four or five every year.  However, I think they’ve outdone themselves this year with their Battle.net MatchMaking dating service.

PAX East Heist: Breach

Posted on 30 March 2010 by Foster

I know I’m coming around a little late on this one, but it would appear that some genius decided to plug his laptop into Atomic Games’ display at PAX East and steal the raw code for their upcoming title, Breach.  The culprit, Justin D. May, was chased into the crowd and eventually caught, and word on the street is that code from the game was found on his computer.

At first he claimed innocence and that he had only jacked in to hop on the internet since WiFi at the convention wasn’t working (sure), but as details leak out it’s looking more and more like he was just some jerk thief doing typical thievery-related things:

“Still Alive” Sung by a Children’s Choir

Posted on 29 March 2010 by Foster

In an effort to prove my belief that the only good thing about having children is making them do things that entertain you, some choir teacher taught a bunch of kids to perform the ending song from Portal.

It’s pretty decently arranged, but I really want to know what the non-nerd parents thought of the whole thing; as I remember it doesn’t really end on a positive note.

Check out the video after the jump.

Don’t Shit Your Pants!

Posted on 29 March 2010 by Foster

If you haven’t played Kongregate’s “survival horror” game Don’t Shit Your Pants, I highly encourage you to stop whatever you’re doing and head to their site right now and do so.  Essentially, the game consists of you needing to poop.  Your goal is to make this poop land somewhere other than your pants.  Get it?

Game with Girls, For a Price

Posted on 26 March 2010 by Foster

Nerdy weirdos rejoice – GameCrush is a service launching this week that promises to set male gamers up with sexy female counterparts.  For a fee, of course.  The site essentially allows you to select the girl of your choice, then pay money to talk to them while playing video games, with a current rate of about $9 for ten minutes.

RPG Heroes are Jerks

Posted on 24 March 2010 by Foster

This video is making the rounds and doesn’t necessarily tread new ground, but it’s still pretty great.  Basically, it’s another tilt on something that I’ve always wondered about – why exactly is it required of an RPG hero to break everyone’s stuff and steal all of their personal belongings?

Why is BioWare Counting Down?

Posted on 24 March 2010 by Foster

BioWare is up to something.  Two of the company’s main game sites, Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins respectively, now feature a timer counting down to Monday.  As I write this, the timer on the Mass Effect 2 site has a time of 4 days, 23 hours, 36 minutes, and 31 seconds.

Cheat at Counter-Strike, Get Stabbed

Posted on 23 March 2010 by Foster

Things got pretty ugly at an internet café in China.  A bunch of kids were playing Counter-Strike, and then apparently noticed one of their opponents was using wall hacks.  They argued a bit, and then one of the group stabbed him in the head with a knife.
