Official Nintendo Magazine has delivered a few tiny hints about the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy 2, and though I’m pretty sure I read something about a co-op mode and new screenshots, the only thing I can see is this SWEET EFFING CLOUD SUIT.
Some folks are speculating that it gives Mario the ability to walk on clouds, but seeing as how he’s been doing that for years I think that would be a pretty lame power. Here’s hoping it does something a little more interesting – for instance, if I had a cloud suit, I would use it to rain all over everyone’s parade.

Oh Sony, you are so near to my heart. It’s not that I like your products; in fact I find most of them to be terrible (seriously, three generations and you can’t find a way to improve on the worst controller ever designed?). No, my affection for you comes primarily from your incredible incompetence at predicting what will happen in your industry, followed by your inevitable assertions that your products are doing poorly because they aren’t designed for some crybaby “general” consumer base like the shitty Nintendo Wii, and the final step of catching up with your competitors a few years later by copying their technology and pretending it was your idea all along.

I’ve loved the Metroid franchise ever since Nintendo Power ran a Super Metroid serial comic in their magazine, so this look at Team Ninja’s newest take on the classic license is definitely something that makes my heart feel kind of funny.
Though I’m not sure what’s up with that fetus thing.
P.S. If you remember that Super Metroid comic, congratulations on being old.

Super Mario Galaxy is one of the best games I’ve seen on the Wii (or any other system), but as far as difficulty goes I think it comes up short. There are few challenges in the game that come close to what most hardcore games would describe as “hard.” Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of our favorite red-hatted plumber, wants us to know that Super Mario Galaxy 2 will add a bit more challenge to the mix as well as easier and more precise controls.

Traveler’s Tales has released a quick look at their upcoming Lego Harry Potter, and I have to say that the quirky charm of these Lego games has even made me think it could be possible to enjoy something that has to do with Harry Potter. However, I’m not sure it’s possible for me to enjoy another Lego something game, since they’re all essentially the same game with different themes.

Nintendo of America Presisent Reggie Fils-Aime took a moment out of his insane schedule during this year’s Game Developer’s Conference to field a few questions, and one of the most interesting of the topics that was discussed has to be Nintendo’s perspective on third-party support.
Industry Gamers pointed out to Fils-Aime that the Wii is going strong on console exclusive in-house titles, and asked him why Nintendo should even care what the third-party folks are up to. Here’s his response:

There are two things I remember about NBA Jam for the Super Nintendo: the first is that I was very bad at it, and the second is the ridiculous voiceover work. While I’m excited to see the second part return and I hope for a change to the first, I can’t help but notice that the game looks relatively unimpressive for a next-gen title – I don’t see much progress from the 16-bit era in this trailer. Then again, I suppose it is a Wii exclusive.

If you do, I have good news for you. According to a job posting dug up by a Japanese blog, the Final Fantasy developer is currently hiring a whole smattering of people to help build a brand new game engine, specifically to prepare for the eventual round of next-generation consoles.

Kotaku had a chance to sit down with Nintendo of America’s president Reggie Fils-Aime, and they used the opportunity to ask about whether or not the software giant was concerned about Microsoft and Sony encroaching on the motion-control paradise they current rule with an iron Wii-mote. Turns out, they’re not concerned in the slightest.

Jason West and Vince Zampella, the former president and CEO of Infinity Ward respectively, may be looking at spending the next few years in court with Activision over Modern Warfare 2 royalties, but that doesn’t mean they’re not on the prowl for new opportunities. Both have recently signed to be represented by the Creative Artists Agency, Hollywood’s biggest talent agency.
While some big names in gaming do in fact have representation in one form or another and the two may be looking to start an independent development company, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them pulled into some sort of film project. Call of Duty has always had great story arcs and incredible settings, both of which translate quite well in to non-interactive media.
That is, of course, if Activision doesn’t own them. I guess we’ll see!
