When I was a kid, I played a game called Super Mario Bros. In this game, the objective was to save a princess using carefully timed jumps, a few helpful power-ups, and the occasional warp pipe.

What I remember most about Super Mario Bros is the fire flower. Once you picked that thing up, the rest of the game was a breeze. You could storm through castles without a care in the world, vomiting flames all over helpless opponents all the while. Hell, fighting Bowser at the end of every castle was downgraded from “Oh shit” to “LAWL” if you still had the fire flower on you when you got there.

I know we’ve spent a lot of time lately talking about Valve and Macs, so today’s news that Steam is coming to the platform shouldn’t be all that surprising.  What might be surprising though, is the announcement of a feature called “Steam Play.”

What is Steam Play you ask?  Why, it’s pretty much the best thing ever for those of us that have more than one kind of computer in their household.  For starters, any game you buy via Steam on your PC will be available on your Mac at no additional cost, and vice versa.  And developers will have the option of allowing you to save your game on one computer, then switch to another and carry on without losing progress.

Sweet, huh?  Look for Valve to drop Half-Life 2, Portal, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, and Left 4 Dead 2 for Mac this April.  Party!
