Square Enix has dropped the full details on the race and clan combinations that will be available in Final Fantasy XIV, and if you were worried you weren’t going to get a chance to play as a barely-passable furry fantasy you can breathe a sigh of relief and get back to downloading Digimon porn.

With Final Fantasy XIII steamrolling right on in the sales charts and Final Fantasy XIV on the horizon, many have been curious about Square Enix’s next big project. We’ve heard a lot of rumors and even a few wishes in regard to a remake of the Cloud-heavy Final Fantasy VII, and now the CEO of Square Enix is chipping in to add his own opinion on the matter.

It looks like the most recent installment of the Final Fantasy franchise is also the most profitable – FFXIII has sold over a million copies here in America since its release last Tuesday, making it the fastest-selling chapter in the history of the franchise.

Though the prospect of a next-generation remake of Final Fantasy VII was sort of shot down by a character designer, that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning nor has it quelled the hope of the masses of fans that apparently haven’t had enough Cloud Strife fanart in their lives.
Now it looks like we can add Motomu Toriyama, the director of Final Fantasy XIII, is throwing his name into the fray as an “interested party.” From Siliconera:
“If we had the manpower and the time to work on a project, if we were to remake Final Fantasy VII with the quality of Final Fantasy XIII it would become a tremendous project. If we can get the number of people we need by all means that would be the one I would really want to remake.”
As one of the roughly ten people that is enjoying Final Fantasy XIII, I would love to see the team that made it tackle FFVII; if only to see how far they can push the platforms now that they have the engine in check.
Keep tossing those coins in the wishing well and maybe we’ll get a chance.

Hey Final Fantasy fans! Do you like wasting money on completely ridiculous and worthless things just because they relate to your game franchise of choice? If so, you’re in luck – Square Enix has released their “Final Fantasy XIII Larger-then-Life Gallery” for the iPhone, and it only costs $8.99.
What do you get for this nine bucks, you ask? Why, still pictures of FFXIII characters of course! And a calendar. And a clock. And all you have to do to use these purchased images as wallpaper is take a screenshot – you couldn’t possibly expect them to make this functionality built-in and still keep the app so well priced, could you?
Why are you still reading this? Don’t you have an incredibly stupid purchase to make?

Where’s your fanboy pride now!? It would appear that all of those people out there that spent the last week or so flooding forums with side-by-side comparisons of minute cinematic differences and generally acting like shitbags because a publisher decided to make a little bit of cash by releasing a game for (gasp!) more than one system are getting what they deserve: reports are rolling in that the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII might have some issues of its own.
From Kotaku:
“In the West, role-playing game Final Fantasy XIII is a multi-platform game, getting a release on the Xbox 360 and the PS3. While the PS3 version might look better, individuals are claiming that there are freezing issues.
“For me it happens in the exact same spot (1st level, right after 3rd group of enemies, while jumping over 2nd pile of rubble) on multiple copies of the game,” writes Kotaku reader Evan. “When it freezes, I can still go to the menu/map/xmb, but I cannot move in the game. Also when it happens, it starts making loud noises (explosions and yelling) at 3 times the volume it had previously been. The sounds will continue if I leave and go to the menu (not the xmb.)”
There’s no real official response on this and no one has any idea how widespread the issue might be, but we’ll keep you posted as details roll in. In the meantime, check out the video after the jump and decide for yourself.

I haven’t finished Final Fantasy XIII yet, but I do know that I’m absolutely in love with the game (minus a couple of small things, which I will talk about in this week’s column). I’m very impressed witht the story arc so far, and the cast of characters is one of the best I’ve encountered in a video game. So the news that producer Yoshinori Kitase is interested in making a sequel makes me excited in that weird, kind of creepy way.

FFXIII has been out for a few hours now, so I bet you’re probably over it and looking for the next big thing. Well, it turns out the next big thing is more Final Fantasy – as in the beta for Square Enix’s MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV.
Kotaku has the scoop:
“Know that you must be willing to part with money and purchase the PS3 version Final Fantasy XIII. Players can register the serial number on their copy of FFXIII to receive a crack at the beta for upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV as well as in-game item.
To get a chance at entering the beta, players must fill out a lengthy application, which lists things like internet speed and provide, router info, previously played MMOs and whether or not players have ever been guild leaders. Players are chosen for the beta based on their answers and not how quick they reply — meaning that it is not guaranteed every player will get a FFXIV beta invite. However, every PS3 customer does get the FFXIV in-game item.”
Having not even picked up my copy of Final Fantasy XIII yet, I imagine I’ll skip the beta and focus on finding a way to balance finishing the current release with not losing my girlfriend. Two Final Fantasy games at once would certainly prove to be a temptation no sane man could deny.

Want Final Fantasy XIII for your iPhone? Well you can have it….sort of. Square Enix is partnering up with Apple’s app store to release the Final Fantasy XIII Larger-than-Life Gallery, which is apparently a collection of ultra high-res images that will be an App Store exclusive.
Here’s the deets from Square’s Facebook:
“This digital photo album is bursting at its virtual seams with ultra-high resolution FINAL FANTASY XIII imagery. Watch intricate design details come to life as you expand and explore gorgeous CG and character art, discovering hidden minutiae like eye colors, clothing materials, and the brilliant luster of accessories! You won’t find this collection of hi-res artwork in the game or on the official web site.”
Application includes the function to use your favorite image as a calendar background.”
This sounds rad and everything, but it’s going to be hard to convince people to pay money for something that is available for free on the interwebs, regardless of how ridiculously high-quality the images may be.
People that aren’t me, anyway. Hit the jump for a couple of screens.

Final Fanstasy XIII comes out tomorrow, in case you didn’t know. Square Enix is hosting a sweet launch party in San Francisco and apparently people are already lining up. My guess is that the lucky winners of Square’s launch party sweepstakes are among them (bastards).
Here’s a rundown on the event from IGN:
“A select group of guests will also be invited to the FINAL FANTASY XIII LAUNCH PARTY to take place later in the evening. Industry luminaries such as Gas Powered Games’ Chris Taylor (Supreme Commander), Microsoft Game Studios’ Corrinne Yu (Halo), and FINAL FANTASY XIII director Motomu Toriyama will celebrate the FINAL FANTASY series and its latest iteration.”
We snagged some pictures of the hall from the official Square Enix blog, so if you want to see what you’re missing you should check them out after the jump.
